Charlie Whewell
Charlie's interest in First Aid was borne through his early years of scouting and outdoor activities. He read a Degree in Environmental Science in Bristol in the late nineties and has been entwined in the outdoors ever since. He completed his PGCE in Geography at Newcastle University in 2002 and became a First Aid Trainer with ITC in 2004. He delivers First aid training to a wide range of client groups and particularly enjoys delivering outdoor and sport courses. The recent birth of his first child has also developed his interest in paediatric first aid! Charlie is currently Curriculum Coordinator for Outdoor Education at Shuttleworth College in Bedfordshire, where he runs a successful department and delivers first aid courses to college students. He moved to Northamptonshire following three successful years as Outdoor Education Manager at King Edward VI High School in Morpeth, Northumberland. Here, in addition to teaching Geography and Biology Charlie ran a large DofE unit, was Educational Visits Coordinator and delivered first aid training to the school population and DofE volunteers. His outdoor career started with the Field Studies Council in Betws-y-Coed, North Wales, where Charlie gained his ML and SPA and enjoyed the climbing and mountain sports Snowdonia had to offer. He has competed in 14 Mountain Marathons, 8 Great North Runs and 2 Great North Swims. He is well travelled and has climbed in the UK, the European Alps and in New Zealand. He ski's annually and volunteers with the Adaptive Skiing organisation in Milton Keynes. More recently Charlie added the Polaris mountain bike marathon to his list of endeavours and has joined West Anglian Orienteering Club in a vain attempt to maintain his fitness levels and complete the 'Bob Graham Round' in the lake district. In addition to his land based interests, Charlie is a keen sailor, holding his day skipper and being a competitive dinghy sailor. He has also enjoyed diving in various warm water locations as a PADI open water diver. 05/01/2007
