Paediatric First Aid

React First has a range of courses designed specifically to meet the needs of schools.  We work with a large number of schools training all staff and students.

Group First Aid Courses for School Staff and Pupils

Specialist First Aid Courses:

All our specialist first aid courses for schools are fully assessed and give a certificate of competence which is valid for 3 years.  The ratio of teaching on these courses cannot exceed 1:12.

  • Paediatric First Aid - 2 day, Level 3 Award, EYFS, OFSTED
  • Anaphylaxis and Adrenalin Auto-injector (Epipen) First Aid - half day

General First Aid Courses:

These courses cover emergency situations common in the school environment

We understand that often schools have specific first aid requirements which may not be met by our standard range of courses. Please contact us with your requirements if this is the case and we will be happy to work with you to provide the course that you need.

Open First Aid Courses for School Staff

You may not have large numbers of staff to train on specific first aid courses or you may find it difficult to arrange for large numbers of staff t receive training on the same day. React First runs an open programme of first aid courses for individuals to attend in Central London.

Click on the links below for more information about these courses or follow this link to view our London first aid course calendar and book places online.

Course - First Aid for Schools - INSET Full day

First Aid for Schools

Running a whole school inset day first aid training course is a great team building day.  Your staff learn or refresh their first aid skills which is always a great confidence boost.  With allergies on the increase and as many children have now been prescribed adrenalin auto-injectors this course also covers the required content for staff to be trained to deliver these injections when necessary.

Everyone will receive an attendance certificate in First Aid for Schools which is valid for 3 years.

Course Timings

Ideally the course runs from 0900 - 1530 to give us 5.5 contact hours.  However if you would like the course to fit around your existing school day structure just send us the timings that you require and we will be able to adapt the course to fit your day.

Course Content

  • Incident Management – a systematic approach to managing first aid incidents and assessing casualties
  • Safe Airway Position
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) - Adult & Child
  • Choking - Adult & Child
  • Bleeding
  • Asthma and Epliepsy
  • Allergic reaction and Anaphylaxis awareness
  • Common playground injuries

If there is additional content that you would like to cover please give the office a call to discuss.  There is a limit to what can be taught in a day when our focus is practical training to ensure that everyone leaves with new skills.  For example you may have an AED (defibrillator) on the premises and would like certain staff to receive additional training.

Booking a Course

We run in-house training at your venue for groups of up to 12 per instructor.  We can teach larger courses with multiple instructors. You simply need a room large enough to not only seat everyone but also to allow them to lie on the floor and be rolled around without bumping into furniture or each other.  Ask about organising a course for your group >>

Happy Customers

"I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the excellent First Aid training you gave us last week on our Inset day. I have had so many comments from the staff about the day; how enjoyable it was, how much they learnt and how useful it was. The repetitive element, building up of the skills gradually, has really stuck in people''s minds, particularly the ''STOP. ASSESS'' (combined with the hands out!)It was also lovely to be spoken to as intelligent adults; so many trainers pitch this wrongly. Thanks again for an enjoyable and informative day."

Course - First Aid for Schools - INSET Half day

We recognise that often schools only have half a day to devote to first aid training.  We can run morning or afternoon sessions with 3.5 contact hours. 08:30 - 12:30 with a 30 minute break.  In this time we can cover all the essential life saving first aid skills in the context of a school and covering both child and adult protocols.

Essentially learning to deal with problems that you rarely encounter but which could have fatal consequences. More time is needed to cover managing common childhood illnesses, allergies and injuries which are the things staff are more likely to use.

Course - Emergency Life Support for Children & Students (Yr 4 - Yr 13)

When someone is having a heart attack, has serious bleeding, choking, is unconscious or in cardiac arrest, knowing what to do to help keep them alive until professional help arrives can give their chances of survival a significant boost. The skills you need for this are called Emergency Life Support skills, or ELS.

Children of all ages should learn first aid.  It is such an important life skill to have and the practical nature of first aid training means that the course is always a bit hit with the children and a really fun day.

According to the British Heart Foundation: "CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), taught in schools as part of ELS, might double a casualty’s chances of survival from a cardiac arrest."  Ref: http://www.bhf.org.uk/get-involved/campaigning/emergency-life-support-skills.aspx

"For the last five years React First has provided full day training courses for our girls in the IIs and IIIs (Year 8 & 9) as part of our outdoor education programme. We feel very strongly at Tudor Hall that the girls need a good understanding of First Aid in case of an emergency, preparing them for further training in D of E.

The two-year progressive course from React First is pitched just right for our girls, so that our girls learn the theory in a fun and interactive way and have lots of practical hands-on training. Charlie and his team liaise closely with the staff, with whom he has built a sound relationship over the last few years.

Thank you, we look forward to seeing you this coming year."

"All staff have found this extremely useful, covering all aspects of the necessary statutory requirements alongside supporting the staff to feel secure in adminstering Basic First Aid if it is required.  The course covered all aspects in a clear and encouraging manner, guiding less confident staff members.
